Originally from Los Angeles, Erik Castro began his career as a photographer freelancing in Seattle, Washington during the late 1990s working for publications such as The Seattle Weekly and Washington Law & Politics.

Castro returned to college in 2001 completing internships at both the Corpus Christi Caller-Times and the Orlando Sentinel before earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism with high honors at The University of Texas at Austin.

In 2005, Castro won a Hearst Award for his photo essay on a prison rehabilitation program and was also awarded Outstanding Daily Texan Photographer for 2004-05.

Erik Castro is currently based in Santa Rosa, California.
